Belvidere Primary School
Good Afternoon Parents & Guardians
It has been another incredibly busy and successful week at Belvidere Primary School, with pupils continuing to truly live our school values of “Dreaming big, working hard and being kind.”
Headteacher’s Assembly – Being Responsible
In our weekly Headteacher’s assembly, we have been focusing on the importance of being responsible. Each assembly finishes with the same key message:
“You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice.”
We would greatly appreciate it if you could help to reinforce this message at home, as shared understanding between school and home makes a significant difference for our children.
Sport has certainly made the headlines this week at Belvidere!
We were delighted to host a Year 6 Girls’ Football Competition, kindly organised by one of our Governors, Mrs Balchin. Four schools from Telford joined us, creating a competitive six-team tournament.
Although our girls lost their first match 4–0 against a very strong HLC ‘A’ team, they demonstrated fantastic resilience and determination. They followed this with an impressive 10–0 win in their next game. A narrow 1–0 defeat in the third match (with the final kick of the game) was followed by victories over Lantern and HLC ‘B’ teams, resulting in a very respectable 3rd place finish overall.
The most pleasing aspect was witnessing how much the girls have improved throughout the year; alongside the clear enjoyment they gain from competing as a team.
On Thursday, our Year 5 Dodgeball Team represented the school superbly at Meole Brace Primary School. The team progressed to the quarterfinals before being knocked out. A particular highlight was their fantastic win against a strong Coleham team.
The coaches were full of praise, commenting on how the children really raised their game and produced their best performance of the tournament.
Looking ahead to next week, it will be the final swimming session for Year 3. From Wednesday 4th February, swimming sessions will move on to Year 4 pupils.
Attendance Update
Persistent absence letters have started to be sent out to parents. Before February half term, we also hope to send recognition letters for outstanding attendance to pupils who have had no more than three days of absence.
We appreciate that this has been a challenging year for attendance, particularly with the flu bug affecting the school before Christmas. As we settle into this new system, it is our hope that more families will receive recognition for their continued efforts in supporting their children’s regular attendance at school.
Reminder: Toys and Gadgets in School
A quick reminder regarding children bringing toys or gadgets into school.
The vast majority of pupils do not require additional items to help them focus during lessons. If you believe your child would benefit from a specific learning aid, it must do exactly what it is intended to do. If an item does not support learning or improve concentration, it will need to remain at home due to the potential distraction it can cause to others.
Please note that all other toys, gadgets and trading cards should remain at home at all times.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership.
Warm regards,Belvidere Stars of the Week

Jewellery
Please can we remind parents that children who have their ears pierced should only be wearing studs to school.
No other jewellery should be worn in school.
Arbor Balances
Please can we remind parents that Arbor balances are kept up to date.
We truly value the flexibility we currently offer, allowing families to pay in arrears. However, if outstanding balances are not cleared promptly, we may be left with no choice but to move to a pre-payment system, as many other schools have already done.
We understand that times are challenging, and we are more than happy to discuss payment plans or offer support where needed. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office in confidence if you require assistance.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Shropshire Schools Half Marathon
Belvidere Primary School will be taking part again this year in the Shropshire Half Marathon.
Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon gives children from Reception to Year 6, the chance to complete their very own cumulative Half Marathon in a supportive, non competitive environment.
With a Half Marathon representing 13.1 miles, the challenge sees children complete the first 12 miles at school over the course of a term or half term, 1 mile at a time, before running the final 1.1 miles on event day in front of family and friends.
The children are treated to a dedicated “full race” experience including race bibs, a marshalled route, music and a start and finish line gantry, allowing them to enjoy and experience the thrill of a big sporting event and to be cheered on as they complete the final leg of their challenge. They receive rewards as they progress through their mileage including a fantastic medal and t-shirt for their efforts.
Entry is £12.00 per child and the closing date is Friday 6th February. To guarantee your child's place, payment is required in full and is payable through Arbor under the payment account Shropshire Half Marathon. Please 'top up' the account with £12.00.
It is the parents responsibility to take their child/ren to the final 1.1 miles which will take place on Saturday 25th April 2025.
The event is licenced by England Athletics to ensure standards are that which would be expected for any Adults Half Marathon.
