Belvidere Primary School
Good Afternoon Parents & Guardians
It is difficult to believe that we have already reached the halfway point of the academic year. This week, the whole school has been engaged in activities for Children’s Mental Health Week, an annual event that aims to shine a spotlight on the importance of young people’s emotional wellbeing. Established to encourage children to talk openly about how they feel, the week promotes strategies that help them develop resilience, confidence, and positive mental health. Each year centres around a national theme, and activities typically focus on helping children recognise their emotions, build healthy relationships, and understand where to turn for support.
On Wednesday, Mrs Kennard shared the Picture News assembly, which explored this year’s focus on mental health through an age‑appropriate current‑affairs story. The assembly encouraged pupils to think about the importance of checking in with themselves and others, recognising when something doesn’t feel quite right, and understanding that talking to a trusted adult can make a significant difference. The key message was that mental health is just as important as physical health, and small actions—such as kindness, movement, and mindfulness—can help us look after our wellbeing every day.
Our Year 5 pupils also had a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding when they were visited by Mr Tisdale from Shrewsbury Town in the Community. He led a classroom-based session exploring what mental health means, why it matters, and practical strategies to support emotional wellbeing. After break, he took the children for a more active session, helping them to link movement, teamwork, and physical activity with feeling good mentally. Many pupils spoke very positively about the experience and were able to identify specific techniques they could use in their own lives.
It was lovely to see so many of you at our Parents’ Evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday. These occasions are always a highlight of the year, offering parents and carers the chance to celebrate their child’s hard work and achievements. If the available appointment slots didn’t fit into your schedule, please do get in touch with your child’s class teacher to arrange an alternative time. Understanding how best to support your child at home can make a huge difference to their academic progress and confidence in school.
The week ended on a real high with our Valentine’s Bingo, which brought the curtain down on the first half of the year. It was an evening full of fun, laughter, and community spirit. As always, I am incredibly grateful to the Friends for their hard work in organising the event, and to all of you who came along to support it.
Some of you may have noticed the new Belvidere P.E. kit displayed in the school hall from Wednesday. This can now be ordered using the link that has been shared separately. Please note that the existing P.E. kit remains perfectly suitable and will be phased out gradually so that families are not faced with unnecessary costs.
The second half of the academic year is always an action‑packed one. We are already looking forward to a wide range of events and opportunities for the children, including Sports Day, Year 3’s Reading the Game, the end‑of‑year trip, Year 6 leavers activities, the Summer Fair, and a number of class trips across the school. As we like to say: Miss school… Miss out!
Wishing you all a wonderful and restful half-term.
Best wishes,
Mr G. Jones

Arbor Balances
Please can we remind parents that Arbor balances are kept up to date.
We truly value the flexibility we currently offer, allowing families to pay in arrears. However, if outstanding balances are not cleared promptly, we may be left with no choice but to move to a pre-payment system, as many other schools have already done.
We understand that times are challenging, and we are more than happy to discuss payment plans or offer support where needed. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office in confidence if you require assistance.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
