Belvidere French Curriculum
At Belvidere, we feel it is important for our pupils to develop an interest in other languages and cultures. We know that by learning another language our children are developing transferable knowledge, understanding and skills including listening, observing, problem-solving, and the ability to express ideas, thoughts and feelings clearly making Belvidere children flexible learners. Learning another language gives our children the key to personal enrichment as well as options for future careers world-wide. In line with the National Curriculum for languages, our intent is that all children:
- Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
- Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
- Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
- Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied
The organisation of our Language scheme is explained, such as detailing the key strands which run throughout the scheme of work.
Knowledge strands: Phonics, Vocabulary and Grammar
and
Skills strands: Language comprehension (listening and reading) and Language production (speaking and writing).
